Waste Transfer Station

Durham Will Handle Orange County's Trash! Thanks to the new county manager and the efforts of our awesome volunteers, the BoCC decided to send the county's trash to Durham for the next 3-5 years - maybe longer. They also reaffirmed their commitment to keep landfills out of rural Orange County. If it weren't for your support, we suspect that the county would be bulldozing the Howell Property today! Dog Deer Hunting

Dog Deer Hunting Under Discussion. Using dogs to flush deer out of hiding is called "Dog Deer Hunting" and this activity is used by many hunters in northern Orange County. Unfortunately, some dog deer hunters follow dogs onto private property, illegally shoot into private property, and allow their dogs to run over private property in pursuit of deer. While many Orange County residents have used dogs to hunt deer on their own property for generations, transient hunters who are not residents of Orange County now come into Northern Orange with their dogs to hunt, causing these dangerous situations. No Airport Ever!

Airport Plans Shelved. On January 9th, 2009, Holden Thorp announced that UNC will not form an airport authority. He said the university discontinued its plans to site an airport in Orange County. He committed to moving AHEC's operations to RDU. This decision is based on the Chancellor's own research and priorities for UNC. Orange County Voice will continue to work with the community and the County to update our zoning and put other important safeguards into place for the long term - but certainly this is a great success for us all. Congratulations and thank you to all of the citizens, community groups and local businesses that united quickly and decisively to oppose the airport. More...
